Fall safety reminders from your friendly neighbors in Edwardsville
There’s no better people to remind you about Fall and Winter safety tips than your friendly neighborhood insurance gurus. Why? Because we see how many people take the simplest precautions for granted, and then we get into a serious bind. So here are 5 things we know that will sustain you through the Fall and Winter months.
- Keep your kids active through the colder and darker months. This doesn’t give them a free pass to submerge themselves into their electronic devices. Get your kids involved with fun indoor activities, like crafting or building forts, to keep their minds and physical bodies active during the cold months. Here are some fun games to play indoors.
- Get the flu shot. There are no more excuses. The healthcare industry and local pharmacies have made it easy to immunize yourself from the flu during flu season. You can take a shot, or you can take a sniff through your nostril these days. Supplement that by washing your hands regularly, and covering your mouth with your elbow pit when you cough!
- Be safe on Halloween! If going out at night, walk in well-lit and populated areas, or perhaps just attend Edwardsville’s Halloween Parade and call it a night.
- Test batteries. Some of you have fireplaces and you’ll want to make sure your smoke detectors are in good working order. This goes for carbon monoxide detectors also. Make sure your flashlights are also up-to-date with batteries in case of any winter time emergency.
- Remember food safety! Since we gather around food during the holidays, be sure you practice good food safety. Clean all surfaces, cover your food, and wash all raw food items thoroughly especially anything that near raw chicken.
